Gulf Warehousing Company (GWC), has recently upgraded its capability to service the ever expanding Qatar market by investing in the new state of the art Vertical Storage units which will offer huge benefits to their Pick & Pack Operations client base.
Working alongside their 43,000 pallet capacity racking system these 6 new 12 metre high ‘Tornado’ units will enable GWC to offer their clients a unique service here in Qatar, being the first unit of its kind to be installed in the Middle East.
GWC General Manager, Abdul Rahman Al-Khulaifi explains that the Tornado solution operates in conjunction with GWC’s Warehouse Management System (WMS), the units directly interfaces with GWC’s WMS. Orders are downloaded directly into its PLC System on real-time basis thus eliminating the need to manually generate pick-slip and order confirmation. He further adds; GWC’s tag line reads ‘’Logistics Just Got Better’’ and this is one of our innovative initiative to ensure it continues to get even better to serve the market with highest level of standard possible.
‘’The Tornado solution is designed to maximize vertical space instead of horizontal space. The incorporated security features of a Strong Room guarantees maximum traceability in addition to protection against dust contamination where goods are fully enclosed. It provides 300% of increased efficiency in order picking and up to 85 percent space utilisation when compared to traditional warehouse and distribution storage solutions”. The decision to purchase and defining of specification was aided by our Warehousing & Distribution Modelling and Simulation System where all possible scenarios we simulated to ensure the ‘Tornado’ solution is the right decision’’ explains Sanjeeve S. Thavarajah, Outsourcing Contracts Manager at GWC who was the source and instrumental in adopting this solution for GWC.
Rumaillah Warehouse Equipment (RWE) General Manager, Cliff Merchant, explains that these units purchased have been manufactured by Dexion’s factory in Finland and are designed to pick-up trays of products using ‘’Product to Man’’ concept in less than 3.3 seconds every 6 meters and he is delighted to have been chosen as the supplier of these units and is very appreciative of Gulf Warehousing’s forward thinking in embracing this technology.
